Happy Valentines day!
.
AKA, an excuse to get our little family together for some pictures. There aren’t enough pictures of the three of us! Hope everyone had a great day!¬† And yes, Lucas is still can’t get his eyes off his feet!
.
The boys
.
I love my boys.

I was going to write this post under the guise of the hat I made for him, but c’mon, I really want to share these pictures!
.
FACE!
.
Pattern: Basic Winter Hat – Back to Basics // Raveled
.
Taking these pictures proved to be quite a challenge! For one, Lucas discovered his foot!
.
Oh hai, I haz foot!
.
And once he found his foot, he could not take his eye off of it!
.
Heh
.
Luckily, the cats were able to distract him long enough for him to take his gaze away from his foot.
.
Distracted by a cat.
.
But back to the hat, I really love how those two simple colors came together. I only wish it didn’t feel like Summer outside so he could wear it without his poor little head breaking out into a sweat!

Hello my pretties! Would you like to become cake? Ok, I'll make cake.
.
The local farmers market returned this weekend from its holiday hiatus and I was really excited to take Lucas there to explore all the lovely produce. We showed up at our usual time in the afternoon and the place was nearly cleaned out! I guess we weren’t the only ones that missed the market during the two week hiatus! I did score these lovely blueberries.
.
When I saw them I thought of the yummy Blueberry Buttermilk Cake that I made last summer and decided we needed to have it again.
.
Nom nom nom
.
Oh my gosh! This cake was just as delicious as the first time I made it! I used Smitten Kitchen’s Rasberry Buttermilk Cake, which I love because you can substitute the raspberries with any berry of your choice. Also, it’s a really easy and quick recipe!
.
Crazy 2-month old showing off.
.
This kid looks like he’s going to crawl soon. I don’t know how I feel about that!

My creation
.
Look, I’m not saying I’m making a commitment to any kind of 366 photo project (I can barely keep up with blogging!), but with the new resident in the home and my hand iPhone always by my side, it’s a little easier to take a picture a day because‚Ķ well look at that face, I just can’t resist taking his photo!
.
So there you go, the first week of January according to my Instagram pics. Not pictured: secret knitting!!!

The best hat!
.
I love this hat. I saw the pattern ages ago, added it to my Ravelry queue, admired it, but was too intimidated to actually knit one. I never really looked at the pattern, but the pictures were enough to make me think it would be too difficult. Little ol’ me too intimidated by the PHOTO of a pattern to actually try it? That sounds about right. I mean, the peak, the ears, how’d they do it?!?!?! How would I do it?
.
But finally I decided to read through at the pattern and it actually looked doable! It’s a pretty neat construction. You knit the back and ears and then pick-up stitches around the back piece to knit the front. The pattern suggests you do this with straight needles, but please do yourself a favor and use DPNs, there is no way this can be done with straight needles!
.
One warning though – this hat is super adorable. Be prepared to have strangers talk to you when you take your baby out in it! People can’t help but to tell you how gorgeous your child is!
